Every Gold Tested recommendation is backed by measurement data and expert analysis.
Every product receives a score from 1.0 to 10.0 across five category-specific criteria. The overall score is a weighted average, with weights determined by each criterion's importance to the real-world user experience. Products scoring 9.0 or above earn our Gold Certified designation.
We purchase every product at full retail price from the same channels available to our readers. We do not accept free review units, pre-production samples, or sponsored products.
Each product category has a standardized testing protocol developed by our editorial team. Protocols specify exact test conditions, measurement instruments, sample sizes, and evaluation criteria.
Subjective criteria are evaluated by a panel of at least three testers with different body types, preferences, and experience levels. Individual panelist scores are averaged and weighted equally.
Our minimum test period is two weeks for most categories, extending to three to six months for products where long-term performance matters.
Every product is compared against at least five direct competitors. Our certification is awarded to the product that scored highest overall.
Products that score 9.0 or above earn our Gold Certified designation — our highest recommendation. Products scoring 8.0 to 8.9 receive a Recommended mark, indicating strong performance. Products scoring 7.5 to 7.9 are marked Tested.
